Sports Medicine Specialist
Dr. Douglas McDonald is a Primary Care physician specializing in Sports Medicine. Dr. McDonald grew up in Colorado and earned his medical degree from the University of Colorado. He completed his residency in Family Medicine at Swedish Medical Center in Denver and then completed a Primary Care Sports Medicine fellowship at Michigan State University.
Dr. McDonald has many Florida ties as well having been a team physician for the University of Florida Gators athletics for 6 years during which time he provided care for all sports. He was a member of the Gators during 4 National Championships including football and men’s basketball.
More recently he has been in the Orlando area as a faculty physician at the Florida Hospital Family Medicine Residency in Winter Park. He has been the head team physician for the Orlando Solar Bears hockey team and has been head team physician for Rollins College, Winter Park High School, and for the Orlando Pride women’s professional fastpitch team. He works with the Atlanta Braves with their Spring training and minor league teams at Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports. He has also worked closely with many elite endurance athletes.
Dr. McDonald is board certified in both Family Medicine and Sports Medicine. He has been faculty in the UCF and FSU Colleges of Medicine and continues to have involvement teaching residents and medical students.
Dr. McDonald has wide ranging personal interests including photography, weight training, running, and cycling. He enjoys fishing, hiking, and SCUBA diving. He still plays baseball and tennis and is a certified baseball and softball coach.
